Project: Duncan Phyfe inspired splayed-leg chair
Features: We incorporated as many original elements from the Duncan Phyfe style as we could including the beaded rails, the distinctive carved lyre motif, and the splayed legs with the brass paw feet.
ShopNotes: Reproducing the designs of master furniture makers like Duncan Phyfe can be challenging. This client was having trouble finding someone to build her a chair to match her Duncan Phyfe sofa with its splayed-leg and beaded rail design. Apparently Duncan Phyfe did not build a chair in that style. His chairs would match his sofas and setees very well in their graceful and refined lines, but there is not a chopped down version of the splayed-leg sofa. Until now.
